In this project, I was initially aiming for dreams/nightmare scenarios with the artwork on the left being viewed as “dreams” the right column being “nightmares”. When I was creating the artwork through AI, I found I was making images that I saw as more dreamy, colorful, playful and others that were darker, twisted and more horror-related images. When glitching the images, I chose to go more intensely with the nightmare with audacity. I still did glitching on the dream images, yet I was more careful with how to glitch the images to either play on the image to further the “dreamy” idea, or glitch it enough to not completely damage the image.
With my gifs, I decided to put the images of the landscapes together to create this switching between alternate dimensions. In the second gif, I used the larger, sinister figure and the girl which reminded me of discovering some sort of new world to switch between. I made the speed of the gif faster than the previous one, in order to make the images almost blend together.
During the critique, I saw a different perspective of my project because people saw it as more apocalyptic with themes of decay and pollution. And I definitely see that now with the use of “creatures”, like zombies. Also, this color palette that represents that with bright, neon greens and dark purples, or the yellow clouds which reminds me of toxicity and pollution. I think if I were to do anything differently I would try to make my idea stand out more.
